Empty Bottomless Buffers

The Replenishment engines have been updated to account for Empty Bottomless Buffers when running for item allocation.

If the engine is configured to run with a bottomless top-tier buffer, the inventory is evaluated for each buffer and top-tier buffers are adjusted to infinite. If this field is enabled for a buffer, then the buffer will not be set to infinite. It’s on hand should be left as it was when reading from the database. This may mean Zero.

The impact of this configuration is that the remaining supply in the network can be used to allocate orders created for demand but no new supply is added. The remaining supply is drawn out of the system.

To prevent a buffer from being adjusted to infinite supply:

  1. Log in to the system as the Replenishment Planner.

  2. From the Configuration menu, select Buffer -> Buffers.
    The Buffers screen appears.

  3. From the Name column, click the name link of the buffer you wish to update.
    The selected buffer's screen appears.

  4. Click the checkbox entitled Empty Bottom Less Buffer under the Replenishment Policy tab.

  5. To save the changes, click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
    A success message appears.
