EDI

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a term describing many different data exchange formats. In the context of the One Network Platform, it specifically refers to data adhering to the ANSI X12 or UN/EDIFACT or ODETTE standards.

Each EDI message contains a collection of "segments". Each segment contains several "data elements", each of which is separated by a delimiter character. Each segment is also separated by a delimiter, and the entire collection of segments is placed in an "envelope" along with a "header" and a "trailer".
